State of the City for Little Rock

Little Rock Mayor Jim Dailey delivered his State of the City address Tuesday night at City Hall.
He focused on three main points - public safety, economic development, and quality of life.
Mayor Dailey says public safety is his number one concern again this year. He says the city is on the right track since overall crime rates dropped by 9% from 2003 to 2004.
He also says it`s important for the city to keep focusing on maintaining the economic development spurred by the Clinton Library. The opening of the library gave the city a billion dollar boost. Mayor Dailey says we can keep that momentum going with expanding the River Rail system and supporting the Heifer Project.
In an effort to improve quality of life, the Mayor wants to pass an ordinance banning people from smoking at work and at restaurants. He also says the city needs to address the problem of homelessness by coming up with a 10 year plan to help people on the streets.
Almost 100 people packed the City Hall rotunda to hear the Mayor talk about the future of the city.
