Task Force May Be Created To Educate Arkansans About Strokes

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A bill making its way through the state Senate would create a task force to educate the public about strokes. A committee recommended today that the Senate pass SB236. Studies show Arkansas has the highest stroke death rate in the nation. The rate for the state is 75.9 per 100,000. Strokes are the third leading cause of death in the United States, and are the leading cause of long-term disability. If approved, the "acute stroke task force" would develop policy recommendations regarding stroke care as well as create a public awareness campaign regarding risks and treatment.
