Huckabee On The Defensive

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Governor Mike Huckabee took to the radio Wednesday to defend himself against people who denounced him for criticizing a bill aimed at illegal immigrants. Last week, the Governor blasted a bill that would have denied public assistance, voting rights and pre-natal care to illegal immigrants. Critics blasted the governor for taking that position. But Huckabee claims the critics were misguided and misinformed. "When I hear people say `we`re gonna stop illegal immigrants from getting welfare,` my friends they don`t get it now. When I hear `we`re gonna stop illegal immigrants from voting,` they don`t vote now, he said." The Governor said the criticism hurts the state when it comes to recruiting new business and industry.
