Semester at Sea: Scary ordeal for local college student

Updated: January 7, 2009
21 year old Megan Knox is a junior at Hendrix College in Conway majoring in psychology. She was on-board a Semester at Sea ship with almost 700 other college students when they encountered rough seas. A 60 foot rogue wave crashed over their ship, knocking out the engines and navigation systems. The crew was able to get one of the engines working again. The Coast Guard helped the ship make the 1,400 mile journey to a port in Hawaii. The ship is undergoing repairs and should be able to continue on to China by the end of the week. Megan`s parents, Craig and Cynthia, say they`ve talked to Megan a few times since the storm. She says she`s fine, but a little nervous about crossing the Pacific Ocean. She does still want to continue her three and a half month journey around the world. The ship will dock in Texas at the end of April.
