Time Test: Fire Department Response in Arkansas

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Safety experts call it the "6-minute rule." They say if firefighters respond to a call within that time frame, the chances that your home and family will survive go up dramatically. While cities like Arkadelphia, Little Rock and Pine Bluff made the deadline more than 90 percent of the time, other departments struggled with response time. Sheridan Fire Chief Tim Stuckey (his department scored just under 80%)says volunteer departments like his face unique challenges. He says there`s always room for improvement, but feels changes in personnel and a wide coverage area make the numbers work against small departments.
