So-called litter-control officers would be allowed to issue citations when they catch someone littering, under a bill advancing in the state Legislature.
The bill has already passed the House, and yesterday cleared the Senate Public Health Committee. It applies to people hired by certain counties as "litter-control" officers, giving them power to give citations in certain circumstances.
The officers are NOT given full law-enforcement authorities under the law.
Only a few Arkansas counties have litter-control officers on the payroll.
