Updated: January 7, 2009
PROSECUTORS AND SOME LAWMAKERS ARE HOPING TO MAKE CHANGES IN THE WAY CLEMENCIES ARE GRANTED IN ARKANSAS. STATE SENATOR BOBBY GLOVER INTRODUCED A BILL TO REQUIRE THE GOVERNOR TO PROVIDE SPECIFIC REASONS FOR GRANTING CLEMENCY AND TO NOTIFY VICTIMS AND OTHERS OF THE INTENT TO GRANT CLEMENCY. THIS COMES AFTER GOVERNOR HUCKABEE CAME UNDER FIRE LAST YEAR FOR WHAT MANY CALL AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF CLEMENCIES. THE MEASURE HEADS TO THE HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE THIS WEEK.
