An executive with a gambling company in Louisiana is trying to convince lawmakers not to expand gambling in this state -- at least not right away.
Tom McPherson is with Boyd Gaming of Louisiana, and has been trying to convince Arkansas legislators not to give gambling rights to the owners of racetracks in Hot Springs and West Memphis. McPherson tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette the state would be better off waiting until it can expand gambling the right way.
If lawmakers want to expand gambling, McPherson says they should open the process and cash in on millions of dollars in licensing fees that could come from new casinos. He says giving the gambling rights to racetracks would short-change the state.
McPherson has his own reasons for wanting to delay gambling expansion. If the process is opened up, Boyd Gaming could have an opportunity to propose a casino here.
