breaking news
A dangerous crime spree started last night in Perry County and ended in Pope County. A Fayetteville man who got in a shoot out with police is accused of stabbing his grandfather to death.
Police say 21-year-old Emerson Tron Westlake went camping ith his 91-year-old grandfather, Hubert.
They say Emerson`s grandfather was trying to talk to him about getting off drugs when Emerson heard voices in his head telling him to kill his grandfather.
Police say Emerson Westlake killed his grandfather on some family land two miles south of the Nimrod Lake Dam in Perry County.
Police say after the crime, Westlake got in his truck and drove to Ola, Arkansas in Yell County.
An Ola police officer pulled Westlake over because one of the tail lights was out on his truck.
Police say during the traffic stop, Westlake got out of the truck and pointed a shot gun at the officer.
Westlake then got back in his truck and drove north on Highway 7 where State Police caught up with him.
During the slow speed chase through Dardanelle, Troopers say Westlake started shooting at them.
A Yell County Deputy ended the chase by ramming Westlake`s truck just past the river bridge on Highway 7 going into Pope County toward Russleville.
Troopers say Westlake got out and started shooting at the officers. A Trooper shot back with a rifle and hit Westlake.
The Perry County Sheriff, Jim Reeder, says while in the ambulance, Westlake told officials that he killed his grandfather and dumped his body.
After a two hour search, Deputies found the body of 91-year-old Hubert Westlake near the campsite.
Police say no one else was hurt in the chase or shoot out.
I am tron westlake and there is alot of disinformation in this story. I was not on drugs the toxicology report from the hospitle where i was treated for gun shot wounds shows no drugs or alcohol where in my system. There was no arugument over drugs. i didnt "dump" his body. The truth is i couldnt afford my medication. I went to a clinic to try to get free medication and they gave me free samples of a drug called geodon. I took this drug as prescribed and it greatly intensified my symptom of paranoia. I belived my grand father was part of a plot to do harm to me. When i realized what I had done I atemped suicide by forceing the police to shoot me. After a few weeks of being off geodon i made a full recovery. But the damage was already done. I atempted to reach out for help to find another medication and I was convinced to keep taking it.
