More Flu Shots To Be Given To Arkansans

Updated: January 7, 2009
More people are now eligible to receive the flu vaccine, according to the state health department. Caregivers and household contacts of persons in high-risk groups are now able to receive the vaccine. In October, based on a nationwide vaccine shortage, the Arkansas Department of Health adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation to limit vaccinations to high-risk groups. Additional doses has prompted the CDC to expand who is eligible to receive the shot. Since November 3, 191,500 Arkansans have been vaccinated. As of December 17, an additional 11,000 doses were available. ADH is in the process of redistributing existing vaccine to each county and is not expected to receive any additional vaccine this season. To determine the flu shot availability in your area contact the Local Health Unit.
