Christmas Eve Travel Still Bad

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Christmas Eve travelers on Interstate 40 in central Arkansas and on quite a few other roads in the state are having a holiday on ice. Traffic is bogged down in numerous areas -- and backups are long on I-40 in central Arkansas. The state highway department shows that roads in far south Arkansas and far northwest Arkansas are clear. Elsewhere in the state, it is a different story. Roads in northeast Arkansas are snowy, and icy conditions are prevalent elsewhere in Arkansas. Ice and snow that melted yesterday refroze overnight, putting a hazardous sheen on many miles of roads. Highway officials say motorists need to be patient -- and drivers need to allow plenty of stopping distance as tailgating on icy roads vastly increases the chances of an accident.
