Now that Bernard Kerik is no longer in the picture when it comes to this nation`s homeland security, Arkansan Asa Hutchinson may have a shot at becoming a member of the president`s new cabinet. Hutchinson is currently the undersecretary for this terror-fighting organization and considered by many to be highly qualified for the post. At one time the Gravette native was the youngest U.S. Attorney in the country, was a three-time Congressman and led the D-E-A. He also has a squeaky-clean reputation, something that turned out to be the undoing of Kerik. If Hutchinson is tapped for the post, that would have a big impact on the Arkansas` governor`s race in 2006. Already his name is solidly out there as an interested potential candidate. If he isn`t considered for a promotion on the national level, he and current Lieutenant Governor Winthrop Rockefeller will fight it out during the Republican primary. Analysts say Democrats will be rooting for that scenario since they believe, Hutchinson would be the easier candidate to beat.
