The state Board of Education voted today to
appoint the state Education Department`s chief of plant services as
interim school facilities director after a search failed to produce
a qualified candidate for the new job.
Dave Floyd will fill the post until it is re-advertised early
next year. A new state law created a Division of School Academic
Facilities to assess school buildings and equipment statewide and
to make a report and recommendations for upgrades to the governor
and the Legislature.
As coordinator of school plant services, Floyd worked closely
with a task force that recently completed an exhaustive assessing
of school facilities. Its report to the Legislature called for more
than two (b) billion dollars for improvements to school buildings.
Floyd will oversee the transfer of the task force`s data to the
new facilities division.
