Shifting Forward

Commuters stuck in traffic on 67/167 these days probably dream of being able to zoom through 3 lanes in each direction. The state highway department is working hard to make those dreams come true. Tonight, two years after the first public hearing about the expansion project, the state is going back to hear more. Presenters are armed with designs revised thanks to comments made back in 2002. The updated design will keep frontage roads 2-way north of Kiehl avenue and create a fly-over that connects the freeway with Brookswood Avenue. Construction currently underway to connect soon-to-be one-way frontage roads south of Kiehl should be finished by spring of next year. Widening 67/167 from I-40 to Kiehl is a project the state hopes to start by the end of 2005. No start time`s predicted for the second phase which will add lanes all the way to Redmond Road.
