Prosecutors could wrap up their portion of the case today in the capital murder trial of a Fordyce nurse charged with beating a patient to death. Forty-five-year-old Gayla Smith Wilson of Fordyce is accused of using lead knuckles to beat 81-year-old Willie Mae Ryan on July 30th, 2003, at the Dallas County nursing home. Ryan died two weeks later at a Pine Bluff hospital. Wilson is charged with capital murder, and prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty if she is convicted. A nurse`s aide pleaded guilty and cooperated with prosecutors. Eighteen-year-old Shermika Rainey could testify today.
