Updated: January 7, 2009
About a dozen Arkansas veterans who were at Pearl Harbor 63 years ago today are expected to attend an anniversary service at the state Capitol this afternoon. David Moffat, who is president of the Arkansas Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, said the group will be smaller than in previous years but their memories no less vivid. Arkansas lost 51 servicemen at Pearl Harbor and 22 remain entombed in the U-S-S Arizona. Moffat estimated 50 survivors remain in Arkansas and he said eight to 10 would probably attend today`s event organized by Secretary of State Charlie Daniels. The ceremony was to include the traditional two-bell naval ceremony in honor of those who died in the service of their country. The Arkansas Natural Brass Band will play the National Anthem, the U.S. Navy Hymn and Taps. Moffat was scheduled to speak.
