Updated: January 7, 2009
A collection of short stories based on Arkansas history is being published by the Central Arkansas Library System. The book is by Velma B- Branscum Woody and it contains eleven stories on different aspects of life in Arkansas. Settings range from Indian settlements dating from prehistoric times to the Northern migration of the 1930s and `40s. The book, "Bears, Bandits, and Backaches," complements a middle school textbook on Arkansas history, and the fictionalized stories are based on events in the text. The stories include main characters who are children to help students identify with the times they are learning about. The book is available from the Central Arkansas Library System`s Butler Center for twelve dollars. ------ Woody teaches English and social studies and lives on a farm near Mountain View.
