Funeral set for Arkansas Soldier

An Arkansas soldier who died of injuries he sustained while serving in Iraq will be buried Sunday afternoon following a 3:00 service at the Camden Fairview High School gymnasium. Sergeant Michael Antonio Smith of Camden died Saturday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D-C. He was 24. Reddick Funeral Home in Camden says the funeral service would begin at 3 p.m. Smith`s body is to lie in state at the gymnasium beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Smith`s father, Donald Smith, said the soldier was serving with the 39th Infantry Brigade near Baghdad when he was shot in the head by a sniper. He was riding in a Humvee on patrol at the time near Baghdad. Smith was with the Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 153rd Infantry. He was the 21st soldier with Arkansas ties to die in Iraq since March. Governor Mike Huckabee has ordered all state flags to be flown at half staff in honor of Michael Smith.
