A neighbor of a Central Texas TV
tower reports seeing bodies strewn around the wreckage of a
helicopter that crashed today.
The UH60 Blackhawk
helicopter crashed in dense fog today after striking one of the
wires supporting a 1,800 foot TV tower. The aircraft was heading for Texarkana.
The Army is saying nothing officially on the fate of the seven
soldiers aboard. But witness Rock Eicke says he and McLennan County Deputy Constable Ken Brown saw bodies in and around the burning wreck.
Eicke lives near the tower midway between Waco and Temple. He
says he heard the metal tower rattle, followed seconds later by the
sound of an explosion about a quarter-mile away.
Eicke says and the deputy went to the burning wreckage and saw
the bodies.
Fort Hood spokesman Dan Hassett says the helicopter was headed
from Fort Hood to Texarkana when it went down in thick fog about 30
miles northeast of Fort Hood.
