Democrats Torn Between Clinton Celebration, Future

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Most of the national Democratic Party is in Bill Clinton`s old hometown for the opening of his presidential library. The gathering presents a constant temptation to talk about the party`s uncertain future after Republicans swept the recent elections. But Clinton says Democrats should not worry. He said they got beaten even worse in the 1980s and recovered. The formation of the moderate Democratic Leadership Council and Clinton`s election in 1992 brought the party back, but some insiders, including those in Clinton`s inner circle say the party needs to decide if it`s on the brink again. Despite the talk, Democrats are trying to enjoy the glow of the Clinton years this week without thinking too much about the daunting task ahead.
