Legislators Waiting For Report On Costs For New School Buildings

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Arkansas legislators are waiting for a report due November 30th that will estimate costs for improving state public school buildings. Legislators say they expect some sticker shock, which could revive a push for further consolidations of school districts. Consolidation bitterly divided legislators throughout the 2003 regular session and this year`s special session. The state paid more than nine (m) million dollars for the assessment of its 6,600 school buildings. Having adequate facilities is a part of a court order the state is under to improve its public schools.
