Prison Director Says They Need More Money

The state Correction Department director told legislators that he needs $73.4 million for his budget for the next two years. The state prison population -- now at 13,662 -- continues to grow. Department director Larry Norris says one of his goals during the next two years is to reduce an employee turnover rate of 36%. Norris addressed the Joint Budget Committee yesterday. Legislators are holding early budget talks now, in advance of their regular session that is to start in January.
