State To Ask Feds For More Flu Shots

Updated: January 7, 2009
The state has only a few thousand doses of flu vaccine from the 59,000 it began administering this week. The state Health Department says it will reassess county needs and distribute the remaining 4,000 doses today. The department is continuing to lobby the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta for more doses. In what officials believe was the largest single-day statewide vaccination effort in Arkansas history, the health department administered 52,195 flu shots Wednesday. The state`s elderly and infirm were encouraged to receive the shots, and the Arkansas Health Department decided to try its post-September eleventh emergency dispensing plan as a way to meet demand during a vaccine shortage.
