State Fair Will Have To Cut Fair Budget For Next Year

-- Five days of rain during the Arkansas State Fair`s 10-day run last month will force organizers to cut the budget for next year`s fair by as much as 17 percent. Fair manager Jim Pledger says income from attendance, rides and food was down about a quarter. That leaves overall income 16 percent. Pledger said organizers want to keep the fair`s entertainment budget where it is and save money by canceling plans to spend money on fairground improvements. Repaving parts of the fairgrounds, minor electrical work and plans for new roofs on two buildings will be postponed for a year. Organizers are not planning staff cuts, he said. Fair organizers will write the budget this month and submit it to the fair`s board of directors for their approval at a mid-December meeting.
