State Starts Giving Out Flu Shots

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The state is distributing about 60,000 doses of flu vaccine through Arkansas` 75 counties today. People lined up by the hundreds at the state fairgrounds and dozens of other sites across Arkansas for what could be their only chance for a flu shot this year. Many of the would-be recipients were in the elderly high-risk group and got in line an hour or more early. They had already waited since last month, when the state Health Department announced the special distribution day. Long lines at processing tables kept many of the early arrivals waiting at least another hour after the doors opened. Maurine Wise of North Little Rock still had her "I Voted" sticker on from yesterday. The 87-year-old says she waited longer for the shot than she did to cast her ballot.
