Little Rock police say crews have successfully shut down a high-pressure natural gas line that blew out this morning in west Little Rock. Little Rock police spokesman Sergeant Terry Hastings says crews are working to make the shut off more stable. The line blew at about 8:30 a.m. when a construction crew ruptured the line. The gas burned for about two hours before firefighters knocked down the flames. The leak continued for about three hours more before the line was shut off. The odor of chemicals that are mixed with the gas were in the air miles from the site of the burst pipe. The leak was at the busy intersection of Shackelford and Rodney Parham roads. Traffic remained blocked, and exits to Rodney Parham from Interstate 430 were blocked.
