River Rail System Opened Monday

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The River Rail streetcar system that links Little Rock and North Little Rock starts service today. The system is offering free rides for its first week. The 20 million dollar trolley system will have stops in the downtowns of Little Rock and North Little Rock. The streetcars will use the Main Street Bridge to get from city to city. Eventually, the system will extend to the Clinton Presidential Library, east of downtown Little Rock. Both cities have had streetcar lines in the past. Little Rock`s line ended in 1947, and North Little Rock stopped running its cars in 1938. ------ The rail line is to hold ceremonies this morning in North Little Rock and Little Rock. Because of rain, the events have been moved indoors, at each city`s chamber of commerce building.
