Volunteers Work To Return Storm-Ravaged Sardis To Normal

Volunteers from across Saline County turned out in droves to help clear away debris from storm-ravaged Sardis. Sardis, which bore the brunt of a twister Monday, became a hub of activity as workers rode tractors and wielded power saws. "I`ve never seen anything like this," said Glenn Willis, a Sheridan resident, who wasn`t slated to work Tuesday. "I don`t have any family up here so I thought I`d lend a hand." Pastor Paul Carter of the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church collected food from Harvest Foods and Wal-Mart. Parishioners prepared the meals and served them to about 75 volunteers. The church is still collecting donations of food, clothing and shoes.
