Wife Of U of A Athletic Director Dies Of Complications From Alzheimers

Barbara Broyles, the wife of Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles, died Wednesday at her home in Fayetteville. She was surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren. Mrs. Broyles was diagnosed with Alzheimer`s five years ago and died of complications from the disease. She was 79 years old. Mrs. Broyles was born in Houston, Texas, and met her husband when she was a tenth-grader at Decatur High School in Georgia. The two were married May Sixth, 1945, before Broyles was deployed to active duty in the Naval Reserve during World War Two. Broyles has been with the Razorbacks since 1957... first as head football coach and then becoming athletic director in 1973. Mrs. Broyles devoted herself to her family and volunteer work. The family will have a private service. There also will be a public memorial service Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.
