Pulaski Cty Residents May Pay For Expansion Of Jail

Pulaski County residents may soon be asked to shell out cash to ease overcrowding at the jail, officials said. "We`re looking at several proposals right now," said Dan Greenberg, a Quorum Court member. "One of them would be a county wide tax with a sunset clause." The Pulaski County jail is frequently closed because of a lack of bed space. The center, which has 1123 beds, often has to turn away suspects and convicted felons because of a lack of room. The tax would add an additional 250 beds to the facility, Greenberg said. Lawmakers are planning to tour the jail Friday to get a first-hand look on the problems.
