Cabot Planning Commission Gives Developers Go-Ahead To Build

Developers got approval Tuesday to build a strip mall near the Shiloh Subdivision in Cabot. The Cabot Planning Commission signed off on the measure at a meeting Tuesday night. Residents in the division voiced strong opposition, citing an increase in traffic through the area. Many of them say they didn`t know the property was zoned for commercial use. "Had I known that, I would have brought somewhere else," said Kelly Coughlin, who moved into her home a month ago." But Johnny Henkins, a commercial developer, says the fact that neighbors didn`t know about the commercial zoning isn`t his problem. "The homeowners here should have checked a little better on this property before they brough their property," said Henkins. Henkins plans to build a strip mall complete with a dry cleaners and a pizza place on 2.5 acres ofland adjacent to the subdivision. Construction will begin "as soon as possible," he said. Neighbors are planning to appeal the decision to the city council.
