A judge has sentenced a Sebastian County woman to three years in prison after a jury found her guilty of manslaughter in the death of her baby. Thirty four year old Twighla Sue Painter of Greenwood was originally charged with first-degree murder, but the jury found her guilty of the lesser charge. After giving birth last year, she allegedly buried the baby in a shallow grave in a wooded area. The jury recommended she receive ten years in prison, but Circuit Judge J.Michael Fitzhugh gave Painter three years in jail, with seven years probation. Painter told police she delivered her baby at home, then put the infant in a trash bag. She claimed the baby wasn`t breathing and she buried the infant because she was "scared." Medical examiner`s determined the baby was born alive.
