Updated: January 7, 2009
Drugmaker Merck has pulled its arthritis drug Vioxx off the market after a clinical study linked it to heart attacks and strokes. Last year, more than 100 million prescriptions were written for the drug, generating sales of $2.5 billion. Doctors plan to prescribe Celebrex and Bextra instead of Vioxx.
