Veterans Campaign For Kerry

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A group of veterans -- including two men who served directly under John Kerry in Vietnam -- is touring Arkansas on his behalf today. They billed their tour as a way to discuss national security, but spoke almost as much about the economy and veterans` benefits. They also said the election should NOT be about Kerry or Bush`s Vietnam-era military records, but were sure to recount Kerry`s heroism in combat. Former US Secretary of Veterans Affairs Hershel Gober, a native Arkansan, says Democrats complain that Republicans try to monopolize patriotism. As a part of a national campaign effort to move away from economic issues to the war in Iraq, Kerry`s Arkansas organization brought out the big guns: Fred Short, a gunner on the second swift boat Kerry commanded; Drew Whitlow of Huntsville, who served on Kerry`s first boat; US Representative Vic Snyder, himself a veteran; and Gober.
