Supreme Court hears arguments on Marriage Amendment

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The American Civil Liberties Union and a heterosexual couple is challenging the title of Amendment 3. The "Amendment concerning marriage" would prohibit homosexual marriage in Arkansas. The ACLU argued today in court that the title is misleading and that the amendment could affect civil unions and domestic partnerships. The couple also listed in the suit, Ron and Susan May, say the amendment could affect gay and lesbian relatives. The Arkansas Marriage Amendment committee says 200 thousand people signed the petition. They say they just want the voters of Arkansas to be able to decide.
