The Arkansas Supreme Court has ruled that election ballots can`t be printed until Ralph Nader supporters appeal a lower court`s decision to strike his name from the ballot.
Nader supporters and Democrats who want to keep the independent off the November Second ballot argued their positions before the Supreme Court this morning. They couldn`t agree if ballots should be printed while Nader`s appeal is pending.
Pulaski County Circuit Judge Timothy Fox ruled Monday that Nader should not be on the ballot because petitioners didn`t formally certify him to be their personal choice for president.
Nader lawyer Sam Hilburn said county clerks should be allowed to print ballots with Nader`s name on them until oral arguments on the appeal are heard. Democratic Party lawyer Robin Carroll said no ballots should be printed to meet a Tuesday deadline to be sent
overseas.
