Arkansans remember Beatles visit

Exactly 40 years ago, the residents of Walnut Ridge became the only Arkansans to share their town with the Beatles. At the height of their worldwide fame and the end of the American leg of their first big tour, the Beatles came to Walnut Ridge on their way to a Missouri dude ranch. They arrived at the Walnut Ridge airport on September 19th after midnight and were seen by a group of three teenage boys. But word soon spread that the Fab Four would be returning the next day during church to catch a flight to New York City. Hundreds of people in this town of less than Five thousand showed up to screem and swoon. Some, like Carrie Mae Snapp, stake their reputations to what they did that day 40 years ago. The high school drama teacher, for one, snuck onto the Beatles plane and stole a head pillow. She said she knows it`s a bit eccentric, but the Beatles` visit is still one of the biggest things to happen to many in northeast Arkansas.
