Former state Senator Mike Everett, who spent a decade in the upper chamber, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 56. Friends today are remembering Everett for his honesty, integrity and his sense of humor. Everett, who was from Marked Tree, died yesterday. Everett lettered in football at Arkansas State University from 1966-69, playing defensive end and placekicker. As a lawyer, Everett was known for fighting hard for clients. State Senator Jerry Bookout said Everett used his time in the state Senate to advance his sense of justice. Everett won an award from the American Civil Liberties Union while in the Senate from 1991-2002. A memorial service will be set later.
