Police confiscate 54 pounds of meth

Police in West Memphis say they have
confiscated 54 and a half pounds of methamphetmine with a street
value of about four and a half million dollars. Mike Allen, the West Memphis Police Department`s assistant
chief, said the sheer size of the Wednesday bust indicates that the
drugs came from a super lab that was likely out of state. Allen said local meth labs usually can make between two and four ounces of the drug at a time. He said producers would need about 25
thousand tablets of ephedrine to make that much of the drug. Allen said officer Jeff Rains found the drugs on a routine traffic stop. The drugs were found in 22 bundles in a false
compartment under the truck`s backseat floorboard. Four of the bundles contained a rare 90 percent pure version of the drug that could have been diluted.
