Juvenile Lockup Could Reopen

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The top elected officials of eight north-central Arkansas counties have agreed to provide funding that could allow reopening of a juvenile jail. The lockup had served the region until it closed July 30th. The White River Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Batesville could reopen within a couple of weeks for a six-month trial run under the new agreement. Quorum courts in the counties still have to act on the agreement. Under the new arrangement, the center will house juveniles from Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Sharp, Stone and Woodruff counties. Two counties previously served by the jail -- Van Buren and White -- decided not to join in this time.
