Mid-America Museum will not be sold

The Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission voted Thursday morning not to sell the Mid America Science Museum to National Park Community College. The school made an offer to the commission, which owns the museum, earlier this week for 400 thousand dollars. School president Tom Spencer said he wanted to buy the building, close the museum and use it for classroom space. The commission, however, called a special meeting for this morning to consider Spencer`s offer. Commission director Steve Arrison said about four million dollars has been spent to keep the financially-strapped museum open. The commission voted to turn down the school`s offer. Instead, the commission will set up a special subcommittee that will look into the museum`s future. That could include closing the museum and selling the building to the school, moving the museum to another location or allowing the museum to continue operations. That report will be due in January.
