Recovery may keep Clinton off campaign trail

Former President Clinton`s office says it`s unlikely he`ll be able to recover from Monday`s heart surgery in time to campaign for John Kerry at the peak of the presidential race. Clinton spokesman Jim Kennedy says Clinton would not be in "traveling shape by mid-October." That`s when the campaign hits its crescendo, the last two weeks before voters head to the polls November Second. Clinton would need to recover in six weeks to make the
mid-October crunch. The former president`s doctors said most people
in Clinton`s age group are only 70 percent recovered six weeks after quadruple bypass surgery. The doctors said it usually takes two to three months for patients to recover completely. That would put Clinton`s full recovery around the time that his presidential library is to open in Little Rock on November 18th. The head of Clinton`s foundation, Skip Rutherford, says the gala opening week is to go on as scheduled.
