A doctor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences says the surgery that former President Bill Clinton is slated to undergo is common and low risk. Doctor Tamim Antakli, a cardiothoracic surgeon at UAMS, said the multiple coronary bypass surgery is the most common operation conducted in the United States. He said more than 400 thousand multiple bypass surgeries are conducted each year in American hospitals. He said Clinton, who is 58 years old and has been exercising and following the South Beach Diet recently, should have no trouble with the surgery. He said the risk of this type of surgery in a patient of Clinton`s age and physical condition is less than one percent.
