Updated: January 7, 2009
The jobless rate in Arkansas fell to 5.4% in August, a drop of o.2% from the month before. The numbers were announced today by the Arkansas Workforce Investment Board. The Arkansas unemployment rate was in line with the national rate, which dropped a tenth of a point to 5.4% for the month. The agency says the state gained jobs in eight of the eleven major nonfarm industries. Jobs in education make up most of the current increase, with smaller additions in professional-business services, trade-transportation-utilities, manufacturing, and construction.
