The name of a candidate for a
constable seat in Washington County will remain on the November
second ballot, even though the man died in July.
Bill Myers, a Republican, died July 23rd. He was 80.
To replace a name on the ballot, a new candidate can be named by
party convention if the governor is notified within five days of a
candidate`s death. Local Republican officials, however, did not
learn of Myers` death in time to meet that requirement.
County election officials could not find any other statutes
allowing the party to remove Myers and nominate a new candidate.
Myers was seeking re-election, and was challenged by Democrat
Gary Conner, whose name will also be on the ballot.
