Arkansas Republicans Volunteer In The Bronx

Updated: January 7, 2009
About 50 Arkansas delegates to the Republican National Convention in New York went to the Bronx Tuesday to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. The Arkansans, including billionaire Lieutenant Governor Win Rockefeller, helped paint, plant and fix up a row of houses. Rockefeller said he painted a staircase floorboards and paneling. He said he thought he did a good job saying quote -- "I made sure my surface prep was good and my work area was clean." Jokes aside, Rockefeller said it was very encouraging to see the Habitat project improving the South Bronx and its reputation as one of the toughest inner city neighborhoods in the country. Habitat for Humanity is a non-partisan non-profit with affiliates in 100 countries and two thousand cities across the United States. Its goal is to replace substandard housing by providing no-interest, no-profit mortgages to low-income families.
