The FBI and AR Attorney Generals` office are warning Arkansans about an online scam called "Phishing."
Officials describe phishing as sending a document that resembles one from a bank or credit card company. The document, which is sent via email, usually asks the receiver for account information.
Several of these documents have made their way into inboxes across the state, including the KARK 4 newsroom. The FBI is looking into whether employees working for banking and credit card companies are assisting in the scam.
Officials are asking consumers to contact the companies they do business with even if the email looks authentic.
Phishers could face up to 20 years in federal prison.
