Parole Denied For Convicted Killer

The state Post Prison Transfer Board is denying parole to convicted murderer Denver Witham. Witham was sentenced to life in prison for the 1974 Saline
County beating death of Stanley Wells. In May, Governor Huckabee commuted Witham`s sentence to 182 years, making him eligible to seek parole. The parole board said it denied Witham`s request because of the seriousness of the crime, his previous criminal history and because there was a weapon involved. Witham allegedly beat Wells with a lead pipe after a disagreement at a bar. Wells` family members said he was unrecognizable. He is eligible to apply for parole again in one year.
