Young People Speak Out, But Not at the Ballot Box

Updated: January 7, 2009
Between protests in New York and a less-than-warm welcome to John Kerry`s daughters at the MTV Video Music Awards, young people are speaking their minds this week. At the same time, recent election results show few 18-25 year olds will actually vote. "If all they do is bicker and not get into the issues," explains UALR sophomore Kendrick Raino, "nobody is really turned on by that." Other students say the coverage deserves some of the blame as well. "It`s everywhere you turn on the TV," says Brittney Robinson, a UALR sophomore. Voting officials at the Arkansas Secretary of State`s office say many young people don`t vote because they don`t know how. For more information on how to vote, check the "As Seen on 4" link on our website.
