An act of violence claims the life of another UAMS staffer. Police say Bonny Wallace was killed shortly after midnight, Saturday in her Arch Street home by Leslie Myers, a former renter. Her husband Paul told police he was awakened by gunshots and tried to get the gun away from Myers. Myers reportedly fired at him, but the gun didn`t go off. Wallace served as the UAMS` Director of Clinical Research for the Department of Surgery. Colleagues say she played a big roll in pioneering and developing the hospital`s burn unit, and had received some lifetime achievement awards for her work. "She seemed to always know a little bit about everyone, personally, folks who`d deliver packages for her, folks who`d clean up around here, the nurses, other researchers," said colleague and friend, Dr. Tom Ferrer. Leslie Myers was arrested at her home and reportedly told police she shot Wallace in a dispute over money. She was charged with capital murder and attempted capital murder. Police say she also tried to smother Wallace`s husband, Paul, with a pillow before running away. She is being held in the Pulaski County Jail.
